Robert Kennedy Jr. Presents Verticrop At Us Mayor's Conference

(Marketwire --January 26, 2010) - Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made a presentation on vertical farming and urban agriculture featuring Valcent's VertiCropTM vertical plant growing system at the 78th Winter Meeting of The U.S. Conference of Mayors, in Washington, D.C. last week.

Mr. Kennedy's presentation highlighted the merits and necessity of vertical farming in urban agriculture and the world's balance between demand and supply of food which is sensitive to climate change, fuel demands, access to water, and investments in research and infrastructure.

Contrary to traditional farming, "VertiCropTM behaves like an ecosystem as waste is recaptured and water is used over and over again," stated Mr. Kennedy. "Substitution of this technology for conventional food production can revitalize agricultural land damaged by traditional farming, rejuvenate abandoned city properties, and help combat health problems such as Type II diabetes and obesity that result, in part, from lack of quality produce in our diets."

Stephen Kennedy Smith stated, "The U.S. Mayor's conference represents an excellent opportunity to present our message of urban agriculture and vertical farming to an audience that can make a difference. We reached a key market segment to explain how Valcent's vertical farming technology can help resolve food security issues, mitigate food transportation costs, create jobs, re-vitalize inner city properties, and result in the delivery of healthy and nutritious food."

Mr. Smith went on to say: "We met with many mayors at the conference who were excited by the ideas that we shared and want to move forward with a project in their city. We will be working with the mayors and staff in San Francisco, Providence, Denver , Salt Lake City, and number of other cities to site and build vertical farms this coming fiscal year. "

Together with Mr. Kennedy, speakers for the meeting, in part, included First Lady Michelle Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan, Education Secretary Arne Duncan, Attorney General Eric Holder, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

Chris Bradford, President and CEO of Valcent said, "This is the right message to the right people at the right time. We are proud that the VertiCropTM System is at the forefront of the vertical farming revolution. We can grow fresh produce within easy reach of the urban consumer, on land where natural water sources have been exhausted, and even in hostile environments where conventional farming systems cannot be sustained. Above all, we can open a new chapter in the book on food security and contribute significantly to reducing our collective carbon footprint, and offset the long term effects of global warming."

Dubai Forum Presents VertiCrop Vertical Farming System

Cornwall, U.K. (Marketwire --January 8, 2009) -- Valcent Products (OTCBB: VCTZF) presented the VertiCropTM vertical farming system at The Dubai forum: "Architecture for Sustainable Societies" on January 5th 2010. Recognizing their initiatives in demonstrating the practical benefits of vertical farming and its leading role in the development of this technology in supporting sustainable agriculture and food security on a global basis, Valcent was invited by The Dubai Forum, sponsored by Brand Dubai, to speak at their inaugural workshop, entitled "Architecture for Sustainable Societies" which marked the opening of the Burj Dubai (Burj Kahlifa), the world's tallest building. The event hosted over 40 speakers, panelists, and more than 400 delegates from 15 countries.

In his presentation Tom Bentley, Director, Business Development for Valcent Products (eu) Ltd, outlined the benefits of employing VertiCropTM vertical farming system in an urban farming environment. Questions from the floor and the discussions that followed confirmed the significant attention and interest now being given to the issues of urban food production around the world.

"In the coming decades, as global agriculture faces the prospect of our changing climate and the challenge of feeding the world's population that is growing annually at about 1.3% and projected to double its present level of 6.5 billion by 2063, we clearly need to invest in research and infrastructure solutions that provide food to regions vulnerable to food deficits," said Tom Bentley. "The world population is growing, food supply is shrinking, water supplies are becoming more limited, and food production is competing for land with housing and the production of fuel crops. We have to make better use of available land."

The Dubai Forum is a new initiative that embodies the vision and the special attention given by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai. The Forum also coincided with the fourth anniversary of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed's ascension. The Forum has been established as a regular platform for focused discussions on a wide range of topics related to the main theme of sustainable development.

Chris Bradford, President and CEO of Valcent Products Inc., is pleased to report that, "Tom Bentley returns to the UK with multiple new global enquiries about installations for VertiCrop."

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Will Join Valcent's Advisory Board

Valcent Vertical Farming Business is Growing

Cornwall, U.K. (Marketwire - December 2, 2009) Valcent Products Inc. (OTCBB:VCTZF) announces that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has agreed to join the Company's advisory board. Over the past two months Valcent has launched a major sales and marketing campaign aimed at developing interest for the concept of urban farming in a number of major US cities in association with EMLINK LLC of Boston Massachusetts.

"My cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has agreed to join the advisory board of Valcent Products Inc. and he is excited about the potential of this technology to offer a new more sustainable model of food production which does not employ pesticides and herbicides and does not involve high fossil fuel use and generate greenhouse gasses as conventional factory farming often does," said EMLINK's Stephen Kennedy Smith. "In addition to commercial growers, and urban areas we see potential for this technology to be used in defense and foreign aid applications as well."

Further Mr. Smith stated, "We have gotten a very positive response from leaders in state and local government regarding the potential of VertiCropTM to create green jobs and bring fresh food to inner city communities. We expect our first project will be sited on a rooftop near city hall in the city of New York in the next few months".

The first commercial size unit of the VertiCropTM system has now been in production for 2,000 hours during which time two lettuce crops have been harvested by its partners at the Paignton Zoo environmental park, with a third crop consisting of mixed lettuce and herbs to be harvested this week. All crops have been closely monitored for growth rates, yields, energy and water consumption and the data is now being shared with other potential clients who are currently in the final stages of reviewing proposals.

Chris Bradford, President and CEO of Valcent Products Inc., is pleased to report that: "We are finalizing orders for six VertiCrop(tm) systems by mid-December which will include orders from commercial growers within the United Kingdom as well as North America."

Bradford concluded "VertiCropTM is providing the right technology at the right time".

Time Magazine Names Valcent's Vertical Farming Technology as one of the Top 50 Best Innovations of 2009

BRITISH COLUMBIA - (Marketwire - November 13, 2009) - Valcent Products (OTCBB:VCTZF) vertical farming technology was named one of the Top 50 "Best Innovations of 2009" from Time Magazine in the issue on the newsstands today.

"Real estate - the one thing we're not making any more of," reports Time Magazine. "That might be good news for landlords but not for the world's farmers, who have finite cropland to feed a growing global population. The answer: build up by farming vertically. Valcent is pioneering a hydroponic-farming system that grows plants in rotating rows, one on top of another. The rotation gives the plants the precise amount of light and nutrients they need, while the vertical stacking enables the use of far less water than conventional farming. But best of all, by growing upward instead of outward, vertical farming can expand food supplies without using more land."

Valcent pioneered a vertical farming technology, developed in their El Paso, Texas research facility, which was further honed and refined in Europe. "We are honored that our vertical farming technology is recognized as a top invention by Time Magazine," says Chris Bradford, President, CEO, and Director of Valcent Products Inc. "Vertical farming is no longer a pie-in-the-sky concept dreamed up by academics in Ivory towers. We have entered a new era of urban agriculture where we can deliver locally grown crops that provide a nutritionally superior product that is healthier for the people and animals they serve."

"VertiCrop, a commercial high-density vertical growing system, is being employed in controlled environments such as a glasshouse, polytunnel or warehouses, which increases production volume for field crops up to 20 times over but requires as little as 5% of the normal water supply," adds Bradford. "It is a non-GM solution to food problems, using trays on a looped dynamic conveyor belt and automatic feeding stations to grow plants efficiently. It can be adapted to the needs of vegetable, herb, fruit and flower producers."
